Update: 4/27/10
I just wanted to take this opportunity to let everyone know how incredibly blown away we are by all the support, prayers, donated clothes and toys from everyone. If there is one good thing to come of all of this is to see the goodness in people.
Now for the update. We are all doing much better now, that first week was a roller-coaster to say the least, more like a free fall with a hint but no guarantee of a parachute. Well, the parachute did open and we are all safely on the ground. We sign a lease for our apartment tomorrow. Folks have donated some basic furniture for us to use: beds and dining tables etc. The rest will come soon enough. The builder may or may not start demolition this week, but that will come soon enough.
I do want to say how incredibly blessed and grateful Evelyn and I feel right now. There is nothing on this earth more important us than our family, and all things considered we are doing beautifully. Thank you all again. I will keep this updated.
Update from Ben: 4/22/10
Thank you all for supporting us. We spent yesterday going through more stuff at the house. Today, we will look at some more rentals and we have to meet with the fire inspector. Things should be much calmer next week. The builders says they can start as early as next week! Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, donations (of both money and stuff like baby clothes and toys).
It is amazing to see so many so eager to help. Thank you all!
Last Friday my good friend Ben and his family suffered a great tragedy. During the afternoon Ben received a call that his home was on fire. Upon reaching the scene the fire was out but the damage had been done. They were able to salvage some of their irreplaceable things, however the house what a loss. Insurance said it would have to be gutted.
To make things worse Ben and Evelyn had just found a buyer for the house and were working through the negotiations to close the deal prior to moving to a home more suitable for their growing family.
I started this as a way to reach out to the Shoults family and show them some love. I’m not sure what all they need, but I do know money can never hurt. Therefore I have set up a chipin fund for people to donate. I can only imagine they will need toys and clothes for Sophie, their 2 year old Daughter, as well a the many items one would lose in a situation like this.
The MOST important thing is prayers. If you can spare some change I’m sure it would be a blessing to them as well. Please consider giving what you can to this wonderful family. You can donate through the chipin link to the right of the page, all donations go Directly to the family.
